The popularity of cannabis vaporizers is increasing when it comes down to the features such as discretion and effortless nature of their operation. Every so often, a pen might have some complications like very weak or absolutely zero draws, clogging issues, dead batteries causing you to go into troubleshooting mode. When your THC pen is not working, detecting the trouble and the ways of fixing it isn’t too difficult.
WHY ISN’T MY THC PEN WORKING?
One of the reasons why your THC pen may be running less than perfect is leakage. Some of these easy fixes are like the oil settling and then getting stuck in your cartridge. Others maybe battery related, atomizer or coil issues which are technical defects. Usually these issue you can diagnose and fix quickly and we will be glad to guide you through the troubleshooting process to banish your problem for good.
MOST COMMON WEED VAPE PEN ISSUES
Oil Settling in the Cartridges
The cannabis oil has a high viscosity because of the fact that oil gets very dense. A common reason for that is the situation when the cannabis oil sits in one place in the cartridge, and it doesn’t flow so to speak. To fix the problem, warm up your cart. The heat will decrease the viscosity of the cannabis oil so it flows out when you draw.
The Hairdryer Cart Heating Solution
Standard method of heating up solidified cannabis oil involves using a hair dryer to heat up the cart. Remove the battery from the cart and stand it up. Position the hair dryer at approx. six inches from the cart at the low setting and heat for 30 seconds. When you see bubbles form let the cart cool down for a few seconds, then reattach the cart to the battery and then take a draw. If your draw is still low, the process has to be done again.
The Steam Cart Heating Solution
If you do not have a hairdryer at the moment, there are still other methods that can help in loosening your cannabis oil. Boil a pot of water on a stovetop, and using some tongs, hold the cart in the steam until the oil flows usually about 20 seconds). Once again reattach the cart to the battery and then take a draw. If your draw is still low, the process has to be done again.
Vape Pen Battery Malfunctioning
Firstly, identify what type of battery your THC pen uses before we go further with troubleshooting THC pen battery issues. If your pen is equipped with a pull-to-draw battery, the battery does not have an “off” and “on” switch. Pull-to-draw batteries are always “on” and the only way to power them off is to run them out of power. Of course it will then require charging through the USB port.
The other THC pens might be of a type that come with batteries that require button activation to activate the atomizer. To operate these pens you generally quickly press the button 5 times fast to turn them on and then held when you inhale.
If you think that you are using your THC pen’s battery properly but the battery doesn’t work, then you should check if there is any lint or oil deposit at the contact point of the cart. To clean it, use a clean cotton swab with rubbing alcohol and then let it dry before connecting it again to the cart.
Marijuana Vaporizer Pen Atomizer Failure
If the your atomizer isn’t working or some error message appears about it on the mod you are using, there could be any number of reasons causing your issue.
First Things First
Before you start don’t automatically assume there is a technical problem with your unit, check the device for debris. Use a clean and damp cloth to cleanse the pen first.
Over-Tightening
Over-tightening is a major cause of atomizer errors. Tightening the atomizer too much with the device sometimes may result in a disconnection from the power source. A center pin (510 connector) may be the next issue if you still have no luck after the above-mentioned step in troubleshooting.
Over-tightening may make the rubber O-rings that seal the threading snap. Snapping these O-rings may lead to the oil becoming leaky and nobody wants that.
Fluid Leaking into the THC Pen Mouthpiece
When your pen is leaking this also can be caused by over-tightening your cart in the pen. Other instances of a leaking THC pen can happen by lying it on its side, instead of storing the pen/cart upright. When not in use, storing your pen laying on its side can cause oil to leak into the vaporization chamber. Oft times when you draw on the vape pen the atomizer can’t vaporize the oil fast enough sending the excess concentrates into your mouth.
If a leaky pen is still a problem, you might want to try a higher voltage and temperature setting. Increasing the power allows the atomizer to vaporize oil more efficiently for each draw, thus reducing the chance of over-saturation of the coil.
Additional Troubleshooting Tips
If everything else checks out but still doesn’t work properly when you draw on your cannabis vape pen there is a chance that the airflow is affected by a plugged cart. To unclog your cart, check to see if the airflow holes in your THC pen are clear. In order to do that, clean the airflow holes by removing any rubbish inside them, using a tool like a toothpick, needle, etc.
Scorched or “Off Tasting” Flavors When Vaping
When the atomizer burns the wick instead of vaporizing the pot oil, it creates a scorched flavor when you draw. If your wick has been scorched there is no solution short of replacing the coil.
Use lower wattage and a lower temperature setting To avoid burning your cannabis oil and damaging your coil. When atomizers vaporize the oil too fast they can burn the wick, take shorter draws to reduce the exposure to the heat. Consistent, larger draws increases the chances of burning your oil and damaging your coil.
It is always a good idea to let your THC pen rest a bit between hits. Doing so allows the wick to re-saturate with oil.
Electronic Control Problem
The biggest issue you my have has to do with the electronics inside your pen. The chipset controls things like wattage, temperature etc. and if this is the cause of the failing pen your only option is to replace the pen.
